he new Superman movie from James Gunn is flying high, and it’s now officially broken a big record. The film has passed Man of Steel to become the top-grossing Superman solo film ever in the United States. That’s a major win for DC Studios, especially after years of ups and downs at the box office.

Reports show that Superman has made over $500 million around the world so far. Out of that, $292 million has come from the U.S. and Canada, which puts it just ahead of Man of Steel. That film, directed by Zack Snyder, earned $291 million in the same region and held the record for more than ten years.

Reaching $500 million was important because it meant Superman had crossed the line into being profitable, at least on paper. But according to insiders, the movie will need to hit around $700 million worldwide before it’s considered a true box office success.

David Corenswet stars as the new Superman, and fans seem to be loving it. Critics have also responded well. The film’s tone is brighter and more hopeful than the previous Superman films in the DCEU, and that change is getting a lot of positive attention. On Rotten Tomatoes, Superman has earned a verified audience score of 91%, showing that viewers are enjoying the fresh take.

James Gunn, who both wrote and directed the movie, is giving the character a new start. And that direction appears to be working. In addition to the domestic solo Superman record, Superman also had the biggest Wednesday box office in the U.S. this year.

The movie features Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult as the villain Lex Luthor. The rest of the cast includes a long list of familiar names like Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced, and Skyler Gisondo, all playing characters from DC Comics.

This version of Superman feels like a turning point for the DC Universe. After years of mixed results and fan frustration, people are back in theaters, and the numbers are going up. James Gunn’s reboot could be the fresh start DC has been waiting for.

The film is still playing in theaters, and with the way things are going, it may break even more records before it leaves the big screen.
