‘Aegon’s Conquest’ Writer Drops Exciting Updates — George R.R. Martin Is Involved and Scripts Are Well Underway!
Fans of Game of Thrones finally got some encouraging news about the long-anticipated Aegon’s Conquest spinoff, thanks to writer Mattson Tomlin. Although HBO hasn’t officially given the series a green light yet, Tomlin revealed he’s hard at work writing scripts and that George R.R. Martin himself is involved in the project.
This potential new show has been quietly developing since April 2023 when HBO first showed interest in another Game of Thrones offshoot. Last year, things really started moving for Aegon’s Conquest, which covers the legendary story of Aegon the Conqueror uniting the Seven Kingdoms with the help of his sisters and wives, Rhaenys and Visenya. It’s a huge part of Westerosi history that fans have been eager to see brought to life on screen.
On July 30, Tomlin answered fan questions on social media, and when asked about the spinoff, he simply said he’s still writing “LOTS” of scripts. When asked if Martin was involved, Tomlin’s answer was a clear “Yes.” That’s great news for book lovers who want to know the story will stay true to the original source material.
The show would take place before the events of House of the Dragon, making it the next prequel in the Game of Thrones universe. While no official title or cast has been announced yet, the story promises to explore Aegon’s rise and the fierce battles that followed.
With House of the Dragon’s success, many hope HBO will officially order Aegon’s Conquest soon, especially since House of the Dragon might end after its fourth season. Fans also have another prequel, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, to look forward to in 2026.
