Rachel Weisz Steps Back Into Evelyn’s Shoes as ‘The Mummy’ Sequel Films in Notting Hill
The long-awaited return of ‘The Mummy’ is well underway, and fans are getting new glimpses of the cast back in action. The legacy sequel reunites Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz as Rick and Evelyn O’Connell for the first time in 25 years, since ‘The Mummy Returns’ in 2001.
Production began in September, with principal photography taking place in London and Morocco. Set photos of Fraser and Weisz together, first shared by People, surfaced in mid-October and sent excitement across the fandom.
The latest look comes from Notting Hill in London. As Page Six shared in photos credited to Splash News, Rachel Weisz was spotted filming scenes for ‘The Mummy 4’ in the West London neighborhood.
The images show Weisz in a striking vintage outfit, including an orange polka-dot skirt, a brown jacket, and a wide-brimmed hat. She carries a large brown leather bag and walks along a dimly lit street lined with classic cars.
Weisz’s retro look fits earlier reports about the film’s setting. According to MovieWeb, previous production photos hinted that the sequel takes place in 1957. That would mark a significant time jump for Rick and Evelyn. The story reportedly skips ‘The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor’ and picks up after ‘The Mummy Returns’, though plot details remain under wraps.

The sequel is reuniting more than just its two leads. John Hannah returns as Jonathan Carnahan, Oded Fehr is back as Ardeth Bay, and Kevin J. O’Connor also returns, with Michael Johnston and Numan Acar joining the cast. Arnold Vosloo has been linked to a return as Imhotep, though his involvement hasn’t been formally confirmed. Fraser is also serving as an executive producer on the project.
Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett of Radio Silence are directing, following their work on ‘Ready or Not’ and ‘Scream’. David Coggeshall, whose credits include ‘The Family Plan’ and ‘Orphan: First Kill’, wrote the screenplay.

Sean Daniel, who has produced every installment at the studio since 1999, returns as a producer. He’s joined by William Sherak, James Vanderbilt and Paul Neinstein of Project X Entertainment.
The sequel now has an official title, ‘The Mummy: Book of the Dead’. According to The Global Wire, the official ‘The Mummy’ account on X announced on October 15 that the film will open in theaters on October 15, 2027.

That’s a notable change from Universal’s original plan. Variety had reported a May 19, 2028 release, which means the film has moved up by about 7 months. The franchise has grossed $1.8 billion, and the first 2 films helped establish Fraser as a bankable action star. Weisz appeared in ‘The Mummy’ and ‘The Mummy Returns’ but not in ‘Tomb of the Dragon Emperor’, in which Maria Bello took over as Evelyn.
Fraser has said the film will deliver what fans have wanted for about 2 decades, as the cast saddles back up and revisits earlier locations. In a MovieWeb reader poll, 59.4% of respondents said seeing Fraser and Weisz reunited is what excites them most.
With filming continuing across London, more set photos are likely to surface in the coming weeks. Each new sighting offers another hint at where Rick and Evelyn’s story is heading after all these years.
