[Trailer] A24’s ‘If I Had Legs I’d Kick You’ Puts Rose Byrne Through an Emotional Firestorm
The first trailer for If I Had Legs I’d Kick You is out now, giving a look at what promises to be a gripping drama directed and written by Mary Bronstein. The movie stars Rose Byrne as Linda, a woman struggling to deal with her life falling apart.
Linda is facing many challenges: her child has a mysterious illness, her husband is nowhere to be found, someone is missing, and her relationship with her therapist is growing tense and difficult. This intense story shows how Linda tries to survive through all this chaos.

Alongside Rose Byrne, the cast includes Conan O’Brien playing Linda’s therapist, Danielle Macdonald as Caroline—a mother who abandons her newborn baby, and ASAP Rocky as James, the motel superintendent. Christian Slater lends his voice as Linda’s absent husband. Other actors like Ivy Wolk, Delaney Quinn, Daniel Zolghadri, and more fill out the rest of the cast.
Filming took place in August and September 2023 in Montauk, New York. This happened thanks to an interim agreement from SAG-AFTRA, which allowed production to continue despite the actors’ strike.
The movie had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival on January 24, 2025. It then made its international debut at the Berlin International Film Festival in February 2025, where Rose Byrne won the Silver Bear for Best Leading Performance. The film will also be shown at the Toronto International Film Festival and the New York Film Festival later in 2025.
Critics have been very positive about the film. On Rotten Tomatoes, 93% of 41 reviews are favorable, with an average score of 8.0 out of 10. The site’s summary says, “Liable to leave audiences in a cold sweat, this fever dream immersion into parental stress connects with thunderous force thanks to Rose Byrne’s gutsy star turn and director Mary Bronstein’s uncompromising vision.” Metacritic gave the film a score of 81 out of 100, showing universal praise based on 13 critic reviews.
If I Had Legs I’d Kick You is set to be released by A24 on October 10, 2025. The first trailer already hints at a deeply emotional and powerful film that explores the raw struggles of a mother trying to hold her world together.
