The first three Jurassic Park movies are now available to stream on Netflix, marking a big moment for fans old and new. The timing couldn’t be better, as interest in the dinosaur franchise is surging again thanks to the success of the latest film, Jurassic World: Rebirth. The new movie has done really well at the box office, earning over three times its $225 million budget.

With $308 million of that coming from the U.S. alone, it’s clear that audiences are excited about this series and its roots. Netflix is smartly using this momentum to bring the original trilogy to a wider audience.

Before this, the Jurassic Park films were streaming on Peacock, but they were recently removed from that platform. This move to Netflix looks like a strategic choice, allowing the streaming giant to capitalize on the buzz around Rebirth and attract viewers who want to revisit the classics or discover them for the first time.

Fans have already started talking about it on Reddit, showing how the original movies are gaining fresh attention.

The original Jurassic Park, released in 1993, was groundbreaking for its use of CGI. It changed the way movies used visual effects and is often called a landmark film for this reason.

Critics praised the effects, even if some were mixed on the story and characters. When it came out, it made over $914 million worldwide, becoming the highest-grossing film at the time, surpassing classics like E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial.

Today, it remains one of the top-grossing films, especially when you adjust for inflation. It’s also the most successful movie ever for NBCUniversal and director Steven Spielberg. Because of its huge cultural impact, some have even suggested that Jurassic Park be recognized as Intangible Geoheritage, since it changed how people see dinosaurs and influenced how these creatures are shown in popular culture.

The second film, The Lost World: Jurassic Park, took a few liberties with the original book’s story. It changed some characters and focused more on conflicts within the group rather than corporate battles. While it wasn’t as groundbreaking as the first movie, it still held the audience’s attention with new adventures.

Jurassic Park III, which came out in 2001, was the first film in the series not directly based on Michael Crichton’s novels. It used some unused ideas from the books, like a daring river escape and scenes with flying dinosaurs. This movie had a rough production and received mixed reviews from critics, but it still added to the story and kept fans interested.

Now, with these three movies on Netflix, a new generation has the chance to explore where it all started.
