[First Look] ‘Harry Potter’ HBO Reboot Set Photos & Videos Show Hagrid Taking Harry to Diagon Alley
HBO’s Harry Potter series is giving fans their first big peek at production thanks to some brand-new set photos. The show, which is one of the most talked-about projects in years, is a fresh take on J.K. Rowling’s beloved books. It follows after the worldwide success of the original film series and the Fantastic Beasts spinoffs, but this time it aims to retell the story more closely to the books.
As of August 2025, the show is deep into filming, and the new lead cast is stepping into roles made iconic by Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson. Dominic McLaughlin is playing Harry Potter, while Alastair Stout and Arabella Stanton are taking on Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger.
Earlier this summer, fans got their first look at McLaughlin during a zoo scene with the Dursleys, which was one of Harry’s earliest magical moments in the books.
Now, thanks to @WW_Direct on social media, even more photos from the set have surfaced. This time, the images show a huge moment for the character, Harry’s first trip with Hagrid to Diagon Alley. In the photos, McLaughlin can be seen wearing the trademark round glasses and loose-fitting clothes, carrying a backpack, and walking across a London street.
Beside him is Hagrid, though for these shots he’s played by Nick Frost’s body double. The massive figure leading Harry across the city is unmistakable for anyone who knows the books.

The production itself has been years in the making. Warner Bros. and HBO first began planning a Harry Potter series back in January 2021. The vision was always to create a decade-long show that would stay true to Rowling’s seven books. Francesca Gardiner is serving as showrunner, with Mark Mylod directing episodes.
Casting for the iconic trio was an enormous task. According to Warner Bros., more than 32,000 young actors auditioned for the roles of Harry, Ron, and Hermione. McLaughlin, Stout, and Stanton were officially chosen in May 2025. Other big names like John Lithgow, Janet McTeer, Paapa Essiedu, and Nick Frost have also joined the cast in supporting roles.
Filming officially started in July 2025 at Leavesden Studios, which longtime fans will know as the home of the original Harry Potter movies. The set photos give fans reassurance that production is moving forward smoothly and that the show is beginning to bring some of the most famous moments of the books to life.
The series was originally planned as a release on HBO Max, but since the platform rebranded, the show will now air directly on HBO. The first season will have eight episodes and is expected to debut in early 2027.
While it’s still a long wait before the show premieres, these set photos are already fueling excitement. Seeing Harry being guided through London by Hagrid is a reminder of where the magical journey begins, and for many fans, it’s proof that HBO’s version is committed to retelling the story in a faithful way.
