Star Trek is celebrating its 59th anniversary today, marking nearly six decades since the original series first aired on September 8, 1966.

To honor the milestone, the franchise is trying something new: a free animated series on YouTube aimed at preschoolers.

The series, titled Star Trek: Scouts, follows three young friends, JR, Roo, and Sprocket, as they train to become future Starfleet explorers. The trio takes on missions from their base on Earth, tackling challenges in fun and imaginative ways.

Sprocket, a young Vulcan with a gadget-like robotic arm, joins the team along with their quirky pets, including a targ from Kronos. Episodes are short, running about three to four minutes each, and the first two are available now. The rest of the twenty-episode first season will release gradually through 2026.

Star Trek: Scouts is produced by Nickelodeon Digital Studio in collaboration with CBS Studios. The show focuses on exploration, teamwork, and creativity, offering an introduction to the Star Trek universe for younger audiences.

The series debuted on the Blaze and the Monster Machines YouTube channel, providing easy access for fans worldwide.

While the franchise’s 60th anniversary won’t officially arrive until September 8, 2026, celebrations are already beginning. Star Trek Day 2025 brings new content and announcements, setting the stage for a big year ahead in the Star Trek universe.
