Russo Brothers Drop Teaser for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ With Cryptic New Image

The Russo Brothers have sparked excitement among Marvel fans once again with a mysterious post on Instagram. Using the hashtag #DoomsdayIsComing, they shared a blurry photo that has everyone guessing about the next Avengers film.

Fans think the image shows Reed Richards’ chalkboard from The Fantastic Four: First Steps. The white markings on a blackboard, along with a yellow line, are a giveaway.

In the new Fantastic Four movie, Mister Fantastic has been exploring parallel dimensions, and this might play a big role in Avengers: Doomsday.

This tease follows the post-credits scene in Thunderbolts*, directed by the Russos, where the Excelsior spaceship appears in Earth 616’s sky and well, everything points in the direction of realities eventually colliding.

Avengers: Doomsday will be the fifth Avengers movie and the 39th entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, with Michael Waldron and Stephen McFeely as writers.

The movie brings together a massive cast including Chris Hemsworth, Vanessa Kirby, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Letitia Wright, Paul Rudd, Wyatt Russell, Tenoch Huerta Mejía, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Simu Liu, Florence Pugh, Kelsey Grammer, Lewis Pullman, Danny Ramirez, Joseph Quinn, David Harbour, Winston Duke, Hannah John-Kamen, Tom Hiddleston, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn, James Marsden, Channing Tatum, Pedro Pascal, and Robert Downey Jr.

In the story, the Avengers will team up with the Wakandans, Fantastic Four, X-Men, and New Avengers to take on Doctor Doom, played by Downey.

The film comes after changes in Marvel’s Phase Six plans. The original Avengers films, The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars, were meant to wrap up the “Multiverse Saga,” but director and writer shifts, along with casting issues, led Marvel to adjust their plan. The Russos returned as directors, McFeely came back as co-writer, and Downey’s casting as Doctor Doom gave the project a new focus.

Filming began in April at Pinewood Studios in England, with additional scenes shot in England and Bahrain. The movie includes actors from past MCU projects and Marvel’s 20th Century Fox films, promising one of the largest superhero team-ups ever.

Avengers: Doomsday is set to hit theaters in the United States on December 18, 2026. Its sequel, Secret Wars, will follow on December 17, 2027.
