South Park is facing heavy criticism after an episode mocking Charlie Kirk was pulled from broadcast following his death. The conservative commentator was shot while speaking at Utah Valley University and later died from his injuries.

Former president Donald Trump reacted online, calling Kirk “The Great, and even Legendary” and praising his work with young people. Trump also sent condolences to Kirk’s wife Erika and his family.

Weeks before the attack, South Park aired an episode called Got a Nut that poked fun at Kirk’s style of campus debates. In the parody, Cartman copies Kirk’s appearance and goes to colleges to argue with students. The show mocked him further by showing Cartman editing debate footage to make himself look better and even giving him a fake award.

Kirk himself had spoken about the episode before it aired. He said, “They’re going to obviously make fun of me … but I think it’s kind of funny and it kind of goes to show the cultural impact and the resonance that our movement has been able to achieve.”

He also added, “We as conservatives should be able to take a joke, we shouldn’t take ourselves so seriously – that’s something that the left has always done.”

After the episode was broadcast, Kirk laughed in a reaction video and appeared to take the parody well. But after his death, many online users began blaming the show.

One person on X wrote, “Hate to say it because I was a South Park fan from day 1, but that show should now be cancelled.” Another posted, “South Park is also to blame for what happened to Charlie Kirk.”

Supporters argued that the program created a hostile environment by mocking Kirk and other conservative figures. Some even claimed the show helped fuel the violence that killed him.

Others, however, said South Park would likely continue to push boundaries and possibly address Kirk’s death in a future episode.

The Arizona Republic reported that a rerun of the Kirk parody scheduled for September 17 was replaced with another episode.

South Park is known for producing episodes in the same week they air, often targeting political and cultural figures. Because of the fast pace of current events, the series recently switched to a biweekly schedule to give the creators more time to keep episodes relevant.
