Hollywood actress Cynthia Nixon has called on Americans to cancel their Disney+ and Hulu subscriptions in protest of ABC’s recent suspension of Jimmy Kimmel Live!.

Nixon shared her action on social media, saying, “I just cancelled my Disney+ and Hulu subscriptions…because I believe in the First Amendment. Reinstate Jimmy Kimmel now!”

The backlash comes after ABC, which is owned by Disney, indefinitely paused Kimmel’s show following his September 15 monologue.

In the segment, Kimmel commented on MAGA supporters’ reaction to the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. He said, “We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them, and doing everything they can to score political points from it.”

The suspension followed criticism from Federal Communications Commission chairman Brendan Carr, a Trump appointee, who said Kimmel’s remarks were “appearing to directly mislead the American public.” Nexstar Media also decided to stop airing Jimmy Kimmel Live! on its ABC affiliate stations.

Fans quickly reacted on social media, sharing screenshots of canceled subscriptions with hashtags like #CancelDisney and #CancelDisneyPlus. One user wrote, “I canceled @hulu & @DisneyPlus immediately… My reason—ABC caving to Trump & his Fascism. Hurt ’em where it counts, their wallets!” Another posted, “Our annual trip to Disney Orlando won’t happen… I’m putting my money where my mouth is.”

The controversy has also drawn attention from celebrities. Tatiana Maslany, star of Disney+’s She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, encouraged her followers on Instagram to “Cancel your (Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN) subscriptions.” Former Supernatural actor Misha Collins announced on X that he would cancel his Disney+ subscription “indefinitely.”

Conservative viewers were angered by Kimmel’s suggestion that the man charged in Kirk’s death was connected to MAGA, though authorities had not confirmed a motive as of September 19. Carr called Kimmel’s remarks “the sickest conduct possible” during an appearance on Benny Johnson’s YouTube show.

This incident has sparked a wider debate about free speech, political influence, and the role of corporations in media. Disney now faces pressure to navigate public outrage while managing political and corporate relationships.

The fallout from Kimmel’s suspension continues to grow, with fans and celebrities alike using their voices to push for action. Have something to add? Share your thoughts in the comments.
