Milly Alcock Has Settled the Favorite Batman Debate and Her Three-Word Defense Is Unarguable

With one of the most anticipated superhero films of the summer just around the corner, Milly Alcock is deep in press mode for ‘Supergirl‘, and she is proving to be one of the more entertainingly candid voices doing the promotional circuit right now. The Australian actress is less than two weeks out from her big-screen debut as Kara Zor-El, which means every interview is carrying a little extra weight. A recent appearance gave fans something to genuinely chew on, though, and it had nothing to do with her own performance.

While promoting ‘Supergirl’ on a new episode of ‘Big Bro with Kid Cudi’, the rapper asked Alcock to rank her favourite actors to play DC and Marvel superheroes and villains in live-action. The rapid-fire segment made clear that Alcock has strong opinions about some of the most iconic superhero performances ever put on screen. It was the kind of loose, conversational format that tends to produce the most genuine answers, and Alcock did not disappoint.

When the conversation landed on Batman, Alcock did not hesitate. She named Christian Bale as the best Batman actor, and when asked for her reasoning, she delivered a three-word answer: “He’s Christian Bale.” Kid Cudi, for his part, could not help but agree. It is the kind of answer that is simultaneously impossible to argue with and perfectly illustrative of just how much cultural weight Bale’s portrayal still carries more than a decade on.

The conversation also revealed several of Alcock’s other superhero favourites, including Heath Ledger as Joker, Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman, Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man, and Mark Ruffalo as Hulk. On Ledger, Alcock acknowledged the obvious, saying “I mean, as a fellow Australian, I don’t have a choice.” Her Spider-Man pick landed differently for some, given that she herself is about to become one of the most high-profile superhero actors on the planet.

The one answer that came with a built-in asterisk was Superman. When asked to choose between Christopher Reeve, Henry Cavill, and David Corenswet, Alcock said on Big Bro with Kid Cudi: “David Corenswet. I can’t say otherwise, I think I would be out of a job if I was like… Wait, no. He just is Superman. I met him and I was like, ‘Oh, you’re the guy, you’re the guy.'” The diplomatic deflection drew a laugh, but her follow-up made clear the admiration was genuine.

‘Supergirl’ Pre-Sales Are Climbing Faster Than Anyone Expected, and the Numbers Tell an Interesting Story

‘Supergirl’, directed by Craig Gillespie and written by Ana Nogueira, is the second film in James Gunn’s DC Universe and arrives in theatres on June 26, with a reported budget of $170 million. The story, inspired by the comic ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’, follows Kara Zor-El and her dog Krypto as they travel across the cosmos to seek revenge for a terrible incident. Gunn’s confidence in the project has been vocal, with the DC Studios co-chief telling The Howard Stern Show that casting Alcock as Kara “might be the best bit of casting I’ve ever done in my entire life.”

Alcock made her onscreen DC debut in a brief but memorable scene at the end of ‘Superman’, and she is already confirmed to return as Kara Zor-El in ‘Man of Tomorrow’, the 2027 sequel. For now, all eyes are on whether her version of the Girl of Steel can carve out her own legacy on the big screen.

Whether Christian Bale himself has seen her endorsement yet remains unknown, but given the sheer volume of conversations it has started online, the question is worth asking: do you agree with Alcock that Bale’s portrayal of the Dark Knight is still the definitive one, or is there another Batman actor who deserves the crown?
