Apple TV+ Postpones Upcoming Crime Thriller Starring Jessica Chastain Following Charlie Kirk Assassination
Apple TV+ has postponed the release of its upcoming political thriller miniseries The Savant, starring Jessica Chastain.
The streaming service announced the decision on Tuesday. “After careful consideration, we have made the decision to postpone ‘The Savant,’” an Apple TV+ spokesperson said. “We appreciate your understanding and look forward to releasing the series at a future date.”
The company did not provide a specific reason for the delay. However, reports suggest it is related to the recent assassination of conservative political activist Charlie Kirk.
The show features depictions of political violence, including a sniper attack, which may have influenced the timing of the release. Entertainment outlets have noted that the industry has been adjusting content and schedules in response to real-world events, such as the recent suspension of Jimmy Kimmel.
The Savant is based on an article by Andrea Stanley and created by Melissa James Gibson, who also serves as showrunner and executive producer.
The miniseries follows a woman known as “the Savant,” who infiltrates online hate groups to prevent planned attacks. Jessica Chastain plays the lead role, Jodi Goodwin, while Nnamdi Asomugha stars as Charlie Goodwin and Pablo Schreiber plays a key role as Jason.
By day, Jodi is your average suburban mom. By night, she’s uncovering the darkest corners of the internet.

Chastain said her portrayal of the Savant was designed to protect the real-life person’s identity. “I wouldn’t want to look and behave exactly like her, because I want to keep her hidden,” she explained.
The series was originally set to premiere on September 26, with episodes released weekly through November 7. Variety first reported Chastain’s casting in March 2023, and Nnamdi Asomugha joined the main cast in February 2024. Additional cast members, including James Badge Dale, were announced in the months following.
Deadline Hollywood reported that the postponement occurred just three days before the planned premiere. No new release date has been announced, but the decision reflects caution in light of recent events and the sensitive nature of the show’s subject matter.
