Crunchyroll Goes Beyond Anime: Launches New App to Bring Manga to Fans
Crunchyroll is now offering fans a new way to enjoy manga alongside its popular anime content.
The streaming platform announced that Crunchyroll Manga, a separate digital reading app, will launch on October 9. The app will give subscribers access to hundreds of manga titles from multiple publishers.
Some of the manga expected on the platform include popular series like One Piece, Jujutsu Kaisen, Daemons of the Shadow Realm, My Dress-Up Darling, Lycoris Recoil, Sasaki and Miyano, and Maiden of the Dragon: Falling for the Demon’s Lies. The library will continue to grow after launch, giving fans plenty of options to explore.
Crunchyroll Manga will be a standalone app separate from the main streaming service. Subscribers on the Ultimate Fan tier, which costs $15.99 per month, will get access at no extra cost. Fans on the Fan and Mega Fan tiers will need to pay an additional $4 or $3.50 per month to use the manga service.
The app will also allow chapters to be downloaded for offline reading. A web version will launch shortly after, on October 15.
“Fans of manga, rejoice! At long last, Crunchyroll Manga is available to fans in the U.S. and Canada! Enjoy convenient access to your favorite series in high-resolution manga form. Whether you’re a manga enthusiast, interested in the source material behind your fave show, or itching to read ahead before the next season airs, Crunchyroll Manga is a convenient and portable way to enjoy both new and classic series,” the company said in a statement.
This move marks Crunchyroll’s push to become more than just a streaming platform for anime. By offering manga, the company aims to give fans a one-stop destination for both reading and watching their favorite series.
It will be interesting to see how quickly fans adopt Crunchyroll Manga and which titles become the most popular. Do you plan to try the new app? Share your thoughts in the comments.
