Epic Games Store Offers 2024 Open-World PC Game For Free

The Epic Games Store is giving away a new free game this week, and this time it’s a single title. PC players can claim the open-world survival game Nightingale, which is currently in early access and was released in 2024.

Epic users have just one week to download it for free before the offer changes on October 9, when two new free games will be available.

Nightingale is developed and published by Inflexion Games. The game has been popular among players, though opinions are mixed. On Steam, it costs $29.99 and has almost 10,000 reviews.

Overall, 71 percent of reviews are positive, giving it a “Mostly Positive” rating, but recent reviews have dropped to 64 percent, rated “Mixed.” Some players have expressed frustration with updates and performance issues, which is common in early access games running on Unreal Engine 5.

The game takes place in a Victorian-era gaslamp fantasy world, blending survival mechanics with light role-playing elements. Players take on the role of interdimensional travelers trying to survive and return to Nightingale, a human enclave built in the “Faewilds” before a disaster known as the Pale.

In the game, players must manage basic needs like food and rest, gather resources, and craft tools and equipment. Bedrolls help recover stamina, while umbrellas allow players to glide across the world.

Combat includes both melee and firearms, and players can encounter hostile and non-hostile creatures. Dungeon crawls and raid-style combats are part of the gameplay, and non-player characters, including famous literary figures like Victor Frankenstein and Mr. Hyde, provide quests.

Players can explore different realms, each procedurally generated and customizable using cards to select biomes such as deserts, woodlands, and swamps. The game can be played solo or cooperatively with up to six people, and supports both first-person and third-person perspectives.

Nightingale offers a mix of survival, exploration, and cooperative play, giving players a chance to experience a unique Victorian fantasy world.
