New Actor Reportedly Emerges as Amazon’s Top Contender for Next James Bond
Amazon MGM is reportedly considering Jacob Elordi as a potential actor for the next James Bond film, though no official offer has been made yet.
Sources say Elordi may have a screen test next year, which would include the classic tuxedo fitting and action sequences. Denis Villeneuve, who is directing Bond, is expected to have input on the casting, and so far there is no indication he would oppose Elordi.
A final decision on the new 007 is not expected until mid-2026. Amazon declined to comment when contacted.
The news is notable because recent reports suggested that Amazon was looking for an “unknown” British actor to take on the role. Elordi, 28, is Australian but has gained a lot of attention for his work in Euphoria, Priscilla, Saltburn, and the upcoming Frankenstein. Insiders say he could fit the part well.
“He’d make a compelling Bond because he combines striking looks with an imposing frame and a natural air of detachment that aligns with Ian Fleming’s colder, more ruthless 007,” one source said. Elordi has shown in past roles that he can balance charm with menace, a key quality for the character.
The film’s screenwriter, Steven Knight, known for Peaky Blinders and Eastern Promises, is shaping the story to reflect a grittier and more physically capable Bond.
An insider noted the new 007 should look like “he could kill you with his bare hands in a trice,” echoing the brutal vision from Fleming’s original novels. Standing at 6’5”, Elordi meets the physical requirements. Knight’s script may also explore Bond’s origins, including his Royal Navy service, recruitment into MI6, and eventual attainment of “00” status, possibly set in the 1950s or 1960s.
Casting will not officially begin until Villeneuve finishes Dune: Part Three. Production is expected to start in 2027, with a release planned for 2028, likely in November, following the traditional Bond release schedule.
Earlier this year, Amazon MGM completed a $1 billion deal with Eon Productions, giving the studio full creative control over the James Bond franchise. Amy Pascal and David Heyman are set to oversee the series through their production companies, Pascal Pictures and Heyday Films. Villeneuve was confirmed as director in June, and Knight was announced as the writer in July.
Jacob Elordi could bring a fresh energy to the role of James Bond. His combination of charm, physical presence, and intensity seems to fit the vision for a modern 007.
It will be interesting to see if he lands the part and how Amazon reinvents the character for a new generation. What do you think about Elordi as the next James Bond? Share your thoughts in the comments.
