‘Starfleet Academy’ Actress Accidentally Leaks Show’s Premiere Date
The next Star Trek series, Starfleet Academy, may have revealed its premiere date sooner than expected.
The show, which follows a new generation of cadets, has been under production with showrunners Alex Kurtzman and Noga Landau. While Paramount+ has kept details quiet, a recent Instagram post from actor and comedian Gina Yashere might have given fans a clue.
Yashere, who plays half-Klingon, half-Jem’Hadar instructor Lura Thok, shared a photo of herself in full prosthetics. In the original caption, she wrote, “The prosthetic department at @startrek are a bunch of geniuses. See you in January 2026.”
The post was later updated to “early in 2026.” If correct, this would make Starfleet Academy the first Star Trek series to launch in the new year.

Starfleet Academy is set in the 32nd century, continuing the timeline introduced in Star Trek: Discovery.
The story focuses on the first new class of Starfleet cadets in over a century as they train to become officers. The cast includes Sandro Rosta, Karim Diané, Kerrice Brooks, George Hawkins, and Bella Shepard as the cadets, alongside Holly Hunter, Zoë Steiner, Robert Picardo, Tig Notaro, and Oded Fehr.
The series has been in development for years and officially received a series order in March 2023. Production for the first season took place from August 2024 to February at Pinewood Toronto Studios in Canada. The initial season will consist of 10 episodes, with a second season already in development.
Starfleet Academy is part of the expanded Star Trek universe overseen by executive producer Alex Kurtzman and is created by Gaia Violo. With this new installment, Paramount+ continues to explore fresh stories and characters within the beloved sci-fi franchise.
