Produced by Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon, the short takes place after the events of the 2023 movie Mutant Mayhem. This time, the Turtles are facing a new kind of challenge, the struggles of being famous. When a suspicious toy company starts using their image for profit, the brothers travel to New Jersey to find out what’s really going on. Their simple plan quickly turns into a wild mission full of unexpected twists and chaos.
The project is directed by Kent Seki, who previously worked as head of cinematography on Mutant Mayhem. The screenplay comes from Andrew Joustra, one of the writers who helped shape that film’s story. Returning producers include Mutant Mayhem director Jeff Rowe, Ramsay McBean, and the Point Grey Pictures team of Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and James Weaver.
The short first made its debut on June 10 at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, where it screened as part of the Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon showcase. Festival audiences praised it for its sharp humor and energetic animation style, which carry over the spirit of Mutant Mayhem.
Fans who missed the festival screening won’t have to wait long. Chrome Alone 2 – Lost in New Jersey is set to arrive in theaters on December 19, playing ahead of The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants. Variety recently shared a few sneak peeks from the film, showing that the creative team has kept the same bold visual style that made Mutant Mayhem stand out.
With the original creative crew back together and a fresh story that takes the Turtles into new territory, Chrome Alone 2 – Lost in New Jersey looks ready to deliver another fun and action-packed ride for audiences of all ages.
