Amazon, one of the richest companies in the world, recently took control of the James Bond franchise for what seems like a surprisingly low price: $20 million.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, this amount is even less than the $25 million Daniel Craig reportedly earned for his final Bond film, No Time to Die.

The revelation comes from a U.K. tax filing by EON Productions, the company run by Barbara Broccoli and her stepbrother Michael G. Wilson, who had managed the franchise since the 1960s.

The filing shows that the siblings sold their rights to Amazon in February, giving the tech giant full creative control over all James Bond intellectual property. “On 20 February 2025, the company entered into an agreement for the sale of its interest in the Bond franchise, all associated assets as well as its subsidiary companies, B24 Limited and B25 Limited. The total consideration for the sale amounted to $20 million (USD),” the filing states.

Despite the seemingly low upfront payment, sources told THR that Broccoli and Wilson are likely to make much more over time.

The deal includes a joint venture structure, and there could also be earnouts or stock options that significantly increase the final value. “Sources said at the time that the total value could be closer to $1 billion,” THR reported.

Amazon MGM Studios is already moving forward with the 26th James Bond film. Denis Villeneuve, known for Dune, is set to direct, with David Heyman and Amy Pascal producing and Steven Knight of Peaky Blinders writing the screenplay. Reports indicate that the filmmakers are searching for a “fresh face” to play Bond, aiming for an unknown British actor in his late 20s to early 30s.

Filming for James Bond 26 is scheduled to begin in 2027, with a planned release in 2028.

This move marks a major shift in the Bond franchise, putting one of the biggest tech companies in the world in charge of a cinematic legacy that has spanned six decades.

It’s surprising that Amazon acquired such a high-profile franchise for such a low initial price, though the long-term earnings could still make it a massive win for the Broccoli family. What do you think about Amazon’s takeover of James Bond? Share your thoughts in the comments.
