Jeremy Renner, the actor who plays Hawkeye, has confirmed that he will not appear in the upcoming Marvel blockbuster Avengers: Doomsday or Secret Wars.

The news comes despite the film’s massive ensemble cast, which includes stars like Chris Hemsworth, Robert Downey Jr., Tom Hiddleston, Florence Pugh, and Anthony Mackie.

Speaking on The Breakfast Club on Power 105.1 FM while promoting the fourth season of his Paramount+ series Mayor of Kingstown, Renner said, “I’m pretty busy myself.” He made it clear that he does not currently have a role in either Doomsday or the related project Secret Wars.

Avengers: Doomsday is being directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, with a script by Michael Waldron and Stephen McFeely. It will be the fifth Avengers film and the 39th entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The story is set to bring together the Avengers, Wakandans, Fantastic Four, New Avengers, and the X-Men to face off against Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr.

While Renner will not appear in the upcoming films, he remains involved in the Hawkeye universe through the Disney+ series.

In an interview with The Playlist this week, he confirmed that talks about a second season are ongoing. “We got to where we’re trying to do the second season … and it’s gonna be great,” he said, giving fans hope that his character will continue in a more intimate, small-screen setting.

Even though it’s disappointing that Hawkeye won’t appear in Doomsday, it seems Renner is focusing on projects that allow for deeper storytelling. The Disney+ series gives him a chance to explore his character more fully, and fans of Clint Barton might appreciate this approach.

What do you think? Are you disappointed Hawkeye won’t be in the big film, or excited for the next season of the series? Share your thoughts in the comments.
