Fans of the Mushroom Kingdom have something to look forward to. The next animated adventure, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, is set to hit theaters in the United States on April 3, 2026.

The film is a follow-up to the 2023 hit, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, and will continue the story of Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, and their friends.

A new look at the film has been released, and the trailer is scheduled to drop on Wednesday at 6 a.m. PT, giving audiences their first glimpse at the next adventure.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, with a screenplay by Matthew Fogel. Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Day, Jack Black, Keegan-Michael Key, and Kevin Michael Richardson return to voice their characters from the first movie. Illumination and Nintendo are producing the film, while Universal Pictures will distribute it.

The story builds on the previous film, with Mario, the celebrated plumber hero of the Mushroom Kingdom, alongside his brother Luigi and Princess Peach.

Bowser, played by Jack Black, is back as the villain after being shrunk and imprisoned by Peach at the end of the first movie. Other characters returning include Toad, voiced by Keegan-Michael Key, and Kamek, the Magikoopa played by Kevin Michael Richardson.

Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa confirmed in May 2021 that the company was interested in creating more animated films based on its properties if the first Mario movie was successful. After The Super Mario Bros. Movie became a box office hit, Illumination officially announced the sequel in March 2024, with Horvath, Jelenic, and Fogel all returning to continue the story.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will premiere in Japan on April 24, 2026, and will be available in both standard and IMAX formats. The upcoming trailer and new look at the film give fans a taste of the fun, adventure, and humor to expect as Mario and his friends explore new galaxies.

This sequel promises to expand the Mushroom Kingdom universe even further, and seeing the cast back together is sure to excite longtime fans. The trailer drop this Wednesday will likely give the first hints at the story and some of the incredible new locations the characters will visit.
