New photos from the set of HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter series give fans their first real look at Hogwarts in action.

The pictures, shared by Mail Online, show a key scene from The Philosopher’s Stone, including Harry chasing Draco Malfoy during a flying lesson that leads to his spot on Gryffindor’s Quidditch team. In the scene, Malfoy steals Neville Longbottom’s Remembrall, and Harry catches it after it drops from high above the castle.

The set photos also give a first look at several characters. Dominic McLaughlin appears in purple Hogwarts robes as Harry Potter, while Rory Willmort plays Neville Longbottom. Lox Pratt is seen as Draco Malfoy, and Alastair Stout plays Ron Weasley. Louise Brealey takes on the role of Madam Hooch.

The series stars Dominic McLaughlin as Harry, Alastair Stout as Ron, and Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger. Other notable cast members include John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, and Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid. Francesca Gardiner is the showrunner, and Mark Mylod directs the series.

Development on the project began as early as January 2021, with the goal of creating a faithful adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s books.

Casting for the main roles started in November 2024, and by April of this year, the key cast was confirmed. Francesca Gardiner and the creative team reviewed around 32,000 actors before finalizing Dominic McLaughlin, Alastair Stout, and Arabella Stanton in May. Principal photography started in July at Leavesden Studios in Hertfordshire.

Originally planned for HBO Max, the series will now premiere on HBO in the United States, expected in early 2027. The first season will include eight episodes.
