Zootopia 2 is already being talked about as one of the biggest movie releases of 2025. Early numbers shared by Deadline say the film could bring in more than $125 million during its first five days in the United States and Canada when it arrives over Thanksgiving weekend. That would make it the strongest domestic debut of the year so far.

But the largest part of its opening weekend might not come from North America. A scooper account, @BoxOfficeMojo, claims the movie is tracking for a huge launch in China.

The account suggested the sequel could earn more than $200 million there during its opening and might even cross $500 million worldwide in its first few days. These numbers are not confirmed, but they show how high the expectations are.

The sequel brings back the same team behind the first Zootopia movie. Jared Bush and Byron Howard directed the film, and Bush wrote the script. The cast from the original returned as well, including Ginnifer Goodwin, Jason Bateman, Idris Elba, and Shakira. Several new actors joined them, such as Ke Huy Quan, Andy Samberg, Fortune Feimster, David Strathairn, Patrick Warburton, and Quinta Brunson. This time, Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde go undercover on a new case involving a mysterious reptile who has recently arrived in the city.

The movie held its world premiere at the El Capitan Theatre in Los Angeles on November 13. It will reach U.S. theaters on November 26. With the first film still loved by many families, Disney is hoping the new movie draws a large crowd during the holiday season.
