First Trailer Drops for John Patton Ford’s ‘How to Make a Killing’, Starring Glen Powell & Margaret Qualley
The first trailer for John Patton Ford’s new movie How to Make a Killing has finally arrived, giving audiences their first real look at the darkly funny thriller.
The movie is written and directed by Ford, who based the story loosely on the 1949 British film Kind Hearts and Coronets. In this new version, Glen Powell plays a character named Becket Redfellow. He leads a cast that also includes Margaret Qualley, Jessica Henwick, Bill Camp, Zach Woods, Topher Grace, Ed Harris, Raff Law, Sean Cameron Michael, and Bianca Amato, who appears as Cassandra Redfellow.
The script has been around for a while. Back in 2014 it showed up on the Black List under the title Rothchild, and a few years later, Jon S. Baird was supposed to direct it, with Shia LaBeouf and Mel Gibson attached to star. That version never moved forward.
Production started up again in March 2023, and this time Ford decided to make the movie himself. The project was renamed Huntington during development, and sources at the time said it still pulled ideas from Kind Hearts and Coronets. Casting came together over the next year. Glen Powell joined in January 2024, followed by Margaret Qualley and Ed Harris in May.
A month later, Jessica Henwick, Topher Grace, Zach Woods, Raff Law, and Bill Camp were added, and filming began soon after in Cape Town. The shoot involved hundreds of local crew members and extras.
In November, early theatrical previews revealed that the movie had taken on its final title, How to Make a Killing. Now that the first trailer is officially out, audiences are getting a better sense of the film’s tone, a mix of dark humor and thriller energy.
