‘The Batman’ Loses Key Star Ahead of Sequel
Zoë Kravitz is reportedly not returning as Catwoman for The Batman: Part II, according to sources familiar with the production.
The sequel is scheduled to hit theaters on October 1, 2027, with Matt Reeves returning as director and co-writer alongside Mattson Tomlin.
Robert Pattinson, Jeffrey Wright, Andy Serkis, and Colin Farrell will all reprise their roles as Batman, Jim Gordon, Alfred Pennyworth, and the Penguin.
The new film will follow Batman as he investigates another case in Gotham City, diving deeper into the corruption and divisions that surfaced after the flooding seen in the first movie and the events of The Penguin.
Production on the sequel faced several delays while Reeves refined the script, which was completed in June. Filming is expected to start around late April or early May 2026 at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in England, as well as in Liverpool and Glasgow. Luke Hull is serving as production designer, and Erik Messerschmidt is the cinematographer.
Kravitz previously described her character, Selina Kyle, as a nightclub waitress, cat burglar, and drug dealer who meets Batman while searching for her missing roommate. She said the character’s moral complexity challenges Batman’s clear-cut ideas of right and wrong. “Selina is gradually becoming a femme fatale while discovering herself and surviving,” Kravitz said.
She described Selina as mysterious, with unclear motivations, and someone who represents femininity in contrast to Batman’s masculinity. The news of Kravitz’s exit was first shared by Deadline.
