Trey Parker and Matt Stone, the creators of South Park, are teaming up with Kendrick Lamar for a new film that insiders are calling “outrageously funny.”

The untitled musical comedy, known internally as Whitney Springs, follows a young Black man who works as a slave reenactor at a historical plantation attraction, though sources say the original logline may have changed.

Originally, the film was scheduled to hit theaters around the July 4th holiday in 2025. However, Lamar and his manager Dave Free requested major reshoots, pushing the release to March 20, 2026.

Recent reports indicate the movie won’t meet that date, partly because Lamar may be going on tour. When finished, Paramount Pictures still plans to release it in theaters.

Whitney Springs is directed by Parker and written by Vernon Chatman. Parker and Stone are producing through their company Park County, while Lamar and Free are producing via their creative company, PGLang. Principal photography began in October 2024 in Pomona, California.

The film will explore themes of the past colliding with the present. The story centers on a young man who interns as a slave performer at a living history museum and discovers that his white girlfriend’s ancestors once owned his.

Parker and Stone have a long history with Chatman, who has worked on South Park since 2001 and voices the recurring character Towelie. This project marks the first theatrical collaboration between Parker, Stone, Lamar, and Free, though they previously worked together on Lamar’s promotional single The Heart Part 5 in 2022, creating deepfake visuals through their studio Deep Voodoo.

The film was first announced by Deadline Hollywood in January 2022. Paramount Pictures’ CEO Brian Robbins praised the screenplay, calling it “one of the funniest and original scripts” he has ever read. Parker officially signed on as director by March 2023. While production was originally planned for spring 2022, it was delayed due to Parker and Stone’s South Park commitments before beginning in October 2024.

Whitney Springs is set to be released in the United States by Paramount Pictures.

This project looks to combine the sharp humor of Parker and Stone with Lamar’s creative vision, creating a unique mix of comedy and music. It’s exciting to see such diverse talent collaborating on a major theatrical release. What do you think about this film so far? Share your thoughts in the comments.
