Netflix Tells Subscribers “Nothing Is Changing Today” Following Warner Bros. Acquisition Announcement
Netflix has sent a message to its more than 82 million U.S. subscribers reassuring them that nothing will change immediately following its $83 billion deal to acquire Warner Bros.’ TV and film studios, including HBO Max and HBO. According to the company, both streaming services will continue to operate separately until the transaction is finalized.
In a note from the “Netflix team,” the company repeatedly emphasized that “nothing is changing” for subscribers. The email also directed users with existing HBO Max subscriptions to continue using their accounts, stating on the deal’s help page that “Netflix and Warner Bros. will remain separate until the transaction is closed.”
Netflix noted that the deal still requires several approvals before it can officially close. “We have more steps to complete before the deal is closed, including regulatory and shareholder approvals. You’ll hear from us when we have more to share,” the message read.

The path to completion may face significant hurdles. Regulatory approval could come from multiple sources, including the U.S. Department of Justice, the European Union, and state-level authorities. There is also the potential for legal challenges or competing bids that could alter Netflix’s offer of $28 per share.
The announcement has drawn a range of reactions. Interestingly, opposition to the deal has united unexpected figures, including President Donald Trump, Senator Bernie Sanders, and Hollywood unions, each for very different reasons. Sanders criticized the merger, claiming that Netflix is “swallowing” some of Warner Bros.’ most valuable assets.
The situation remains fluid, with Netflix focused on reassuring subscribers while navigating a complex regulatory and competitive landscape.
Netflix’s approach to communicate early and clearly with subscribers is smart. It helps prevent confusion and maintains trust while the company faces a high-stakes merger. Do you think the deal will actually go through smoothly, or will the opposition and legal challenges create delays? Share your thoughts in the comments.
