Jonathan Bailey Gets Playful Ribbing From David Corenswet About Sexiest Man Title
David Corenswet and Jonathan Bailey shared a fun moment during their recent conversation for Variety’s Actors on Actors series. The Superman actor, 32, teased Bailey, 37, about being named People’s S**** Man Alive for 2025.
During the chat, Bailey said, “What a time to be alive.” Corenswet then joked, “Let me ask you this. S***** Man Alive. Jonathan Bailey. S***** Man Alive.” Bailey laughed and gave him a hug, saying, “Okay, it was so lovely to chat.” Corenswet asked, “Where do you go from here?” Bailey playfully replied, “S***** Man Alive 2026.”
Bailey has been widely recognized as a rising star and a s** symbol. According to the Los Angeles Times, his fans include people of “all genders and orientations.” Time magazine included him in their Next Generation Leaders in 2022, calling him “redefining the ‘Hollywood Heartthrob.’” This year, Bailey was named to Time 100 Next as one of the most influential rising stars and became the first openly gay man to receive People’s S***** Man Alive title.
Critics and colleagues have praised Bailey’s talent and personality. Peter Travers called him “a dynamite actor equally adept at drama and musicals.” Kerensa Cadenas of The Cut said talking to Bailey is “a lesson in charm – he’s personable, super-handsome, and utterly hilarious.”
Director Marianne Elliott described him as “the nicest person you could ever hope to meet. But when he acts, he can have an edge, which can feel dangerous in a great way. An unpredictability.” Phoebe Waller-Bridge added that Bailey “operates at a different voltage. He’s a meteorite of fun with an incredible amount of energy and playfulness.”
Bailey is also a leading figure in the LGBTQ+ community. He has appeared on influential lists like Attitude’s Trailblazers in 2020, Variety’s Power of Pride in 2022, Out’s Most Impactful and Influential in 2023, and The Independent’s Pride List in 2024.
GQ described him as “one of the few gay British actors working onscreen whose roles don’t seem defined wholly by their s*****.” Pride magazine highlighted him as proof that gay actors can play straight roles convincingly, while Out said his visibility encourages other LGBTQ+ performers to come out.
