‘Black Panther 3’ Finally Has a Release Window
Marvel Studios has finally set a release window for Black Panther 3. While the Marvel Cinematic Universe is currently focused on finishing Phase 6, work on projects beyond The Multiverse Saga is already underway.
In an interview with the New York Times, director Ryan Coogler shared some thoughts about the future and the upcoming Black Panther film, which the outlet reported is expected to hit theaters in 2028.
When asked about his plans after the Marvel sequel, Coogler said, “To be honest with you, yes. The image I get is a green meadow with Bay Area fog on it, and it’s dawn. That’s what I see after that movie, because it feels like open land, open opportunity.”
He also expressed excitement about the project, adding, “I’m so fired up about that movie, bro.” With the third film scheduled for 2028, it will arrive after the conclusion of The Multiverse Saga.
Letitia Wright, who plays Shuri and will take on the mantle of Black Panther, is confirmed to appear in Avengers: Secret Wars. In an interview with Liam Crowley, Wright admitted she had “no clue” about the plans for Black Panther 3.
The film has been in discussions for several years. In November 2022, Coogler and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige reportedly talked about a potential third Black Panther movie. By January 2023, Wright mentioned that the cast and Coogler needed “a little bit of a break… to regroup” before starting work on a third installment.
By November 2024, Coogler was in talks with Denzel Washington about a role in the new film. The next month, Marvel producer Nate Moore announced he would leave the studio in March 2025 to work on other projects, though he planned to return to help produce Black Panther 3. Coogler confirmed Washington’s casting in June of this year and later confirmed in November that Black Panther 3 would be his next film, with development officially underway.
