SZA Calls Out White House for Using Her ‘SNL’ Song in ICE Post: “Evil and Boring”
SZA has spoken out against the White House for using one of her songs in a pro-ICE social media post, calling the move “evil” and “boring.” The singer shared her reaction on X after the White House featured her song “Big Boy,” which originally appeared in a December 2022 SNL sketch, in a video promoting ICE actions.
“White House rage baiting artists for free promo is PEAK DARK ..inhumanity +shock and aw tactics. Evil n Boring,” SZA wrote on her X account.
The controversial post showed ICE agents detaining immigrants and included the caption, “We heard it’s cuffing szn. Bad news for criminal illegal aliens. Great news for America.”

SZA’s manager, Punch, also commented on the situation, saying, “Trying to provoke [artists] to respond in order to help spread propaganda and political agendas is nasty business. Knock it off.”

This is not the first time artists have criticized the White House for repurposing their music. Recently, Sabrina Carpenter spoke out against the Trump administration for using her song “Juno” in a montage of ICE raids.
She wrote on social media, “This video is evil and disgusting. Do not ever involve me or my music to benefit your inhumane agenda.” After deleting the original post, the White House shared another version of the video with audio altered from the original.
It’s clear that more musicians are pushing back against the use of their work for political messaging, emphasizing that their art should not be used to promote policies they do not support.
