Lizzo has broken her silence after a major development in her ongoing legal battle with three former backup dancers. The Grammy-winning singer won a key victory after fat-shaming claims against her were dropped, following evidence that an unauthorized recording had been made during a private meeting.

In a new video, Lizzo addressed the controversy directly, saying, “They weren’t fired for gaining weight. They were fired for taking a private recording of me without my consent and sending it off to ex-employees.” The recording was made by former dancer Arianna Davis and sent to another former dancer, Crystal Williams, according to court documents.

Lizzo’s legal team, including attorney Marty Singer and partner Melissa Y. Glass, confirmed that the three dancers—Davis, Noelle Rodriguez, and Williams, dropped their fat-shaming claims after 18 witnesses provided sworn statements contradicting their allegations. The Superior Court judge agreed that Davis’s termination was justified because of the secret recording.

The case originally began in 2023, when the dancers accused Lizzo of creating uncomfortable situations during tour stops in Amsterdam and Paris. Among the allegations were claims that the singer pressured dancers to interact with performers in a s***** explicit setting at a club in Amsterdam.

Lizzo has consistently denied wrongdoing, calling the allegations “outrageous” and telling Keke Palmer in 2024, “These were people that I gave opportunities to.” She also spoke about the emotional toll of the lawsuit, saying she felt “very paranoid and isolated” and added, “I know what it feels like to be body-shamed on a daily basis.”

While the fat-shaming claims have now been abandoned, other accusations, including false imprisonment and harassment, are still being addressed in court.

The dancers’ attorney, Ronald Zambrano, told TMZ that they are “maintaining that Judge Epstein was correct in his ruling denying Lizzo’s special motion to strike the vast majority of claims.” Lizzo’s team has expressed confidence that they will continue to defend the singer successfully in the remaining aspects of the case.
