Cher Makes a Glamorous Return to ‘SNL’ After 40 Years With Holiday Performance
Cher made a long-awaited return to Saturday Night Live on December 20, marking her first time as the show’s musical guest in more than 40 years. The legendary singer and actress performed during the season’s final episode, hosted by Ariana Grande, which also featured Bowen Yang’s farewell as a cast member.
The 79-year-old performer opened with her 2023 holiday track, DJ Play A Christmas Song, dressed in a blond wig, leather jacket, and festive pants. Surrounded by dancers, Cher delivered the vocoder-heavy song with effortless charm, ending the performance with her classic mic clasp and bow, finishing with a heart gesture to the audience.
For her second number, Cher chose the Christmas classic Run, Run Rudolph by Chuck Berry. Accompanied by The Roots and a trio of backup singers, she wore an ebony wig and black-and-silver ensemble as fake snow fell over the stage. Her powerful vocals and lively performance captured the festive spirit, showing she hasn’t lost a step after decades in the spotlight.
