Jamie Lee Curtis Reveals She Had Plastic Surgery at 25 — and Says She Regretted It Almost Immediately
Jamie Lee Curtis is once again speaking openly about plastic surgery and why she believes it caused more harm than good in her own life.
The actress has shared that she had cosmetic surgery at the age of 25, a decision she now deeply regrets and has spoken about for years.
Curtis, who is now 67, said the choice came from pressure she felt early in her career. During an interview on 60 Minutes, she explained that a comment made on a film set stayed with her.
While working on the 1985 movie Perfect, a cinematographer criticized her appearance in a way that left her feeling ashamed. “I was 25, so for him to say that, it was very embarrassing,” she recalled. After the movie wrapped, she decided to have plastic surgery.
The decision did not bring confidence or relief. Curtis said she regretted it almost right away. “That’s just not what you want to do when you’re 25 or 26. And I regretted it immediately and have kind of sort of regretted it since,” she said during the interview.
Because of that experience, Curtis has become outspoken about beauty standards and cosmetic procedures.
She now uses her platform to encourage women to accept themselves as they are. “I’ve become a really public advocate to say to women you’re gorgeous and you’re perfect the way you are,” she said, adding that surgery was not the right choice for her.
In later interviews, her criticism of the beauty industry became even stronger. Speaking to The Guardian, Curtis said the pressure to look a certain way has damaged how people see themselves. “I believe that we have wiped out a generation or two of natural human appearance,” she said. She also warned that filters, fillers, and modern technology are making the problem worse, as more people chase an artificial look.
Curtis pointed out how easy it is to fall into that trap. “The minute I lay a filter on and you see the before and after, it’s hard not to go: ‘Oh, well that looks better,’” she said. But she questioned what “better” really means and added that fake beauty is being pushed everywhere.
She has also spoken about Botox in the past, sharing her doubts during an appearance on TODAY. “Does Botox make the big wrinkle go away? Yes. But then you look like a plastic figurine,” she said. Curtis told host Hoda Kotb that she has lived through it and believes focusing too much on appearance can take over a person’s life.
Her views have influenced her family as well. Curtis has said she advised her two daughters not to change their faces or chase cosmetic procedures. She believes that once someone alters their appearance, it cannot truly be undone.
