Netflix is set to lose one of its most popular comedy shows in 2026. Arrested Development, the hit Fox sitcom about the dysfunctional Bluth family, will be removed from the streaming service on March 15th, 2026. Netflix hasn’t officially said why the show is leaving, but it’s likely because the licensing agreement has expired.

The series was created by Mitchell Hurwitz and follows the Bluths, a wealthy family that falls on hard times. The show is known for its clever storytelling, running jokes, and unique style, including handheld camera shots, voice-over narration, and old photos and footage mixed in. Ron Howard served as both executive producer and narrator, and in later seasons even played a version of himself on the show.

Arrested Development became a critical hit. It won six Primetime Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe, and it developed a strong cult following. Many critics consider it one of the best TV shows ever, and it inspired later comedies like 30 Rock and Community.

Even though it received praise, the show struggled with ratings during its original run on Fox and was canceled in 2006. Netflix revived the series in 2011, producing new episodes for its streaming platform.

The fifth season came out in two parts, in 2018 and 2019. The show was supposed to leave Netflix in 2023, but the streaming rights were extended after a deal was reached.

For fans of Arrested Development, this news may be a wake-up call to binge the show before it disappears. The Bluth family’s misadventures remain some of the smartest and funniest comedy television has offered.
