Amy Poehler recently explained why she decided to start her own podcast. The actress, known for Parks and Recreation and her comedy work, said the idea came from watching how many men in her life and career seemed to do the bare minimum.

“Like one of the reasons why I want to do this podcast is as I’ve watched so many men do the bare minimum. And this, I’m truly giving 25%, which is for most people 75%. But it’s like enough is enough. Enough with the 100%. And enough with improving ourselves and listening to stuff about how we’re supposed to get better and better and better,” Poehler said jokingly.

In 2025, she launched Good Hang with Amy Poehler, a podcast that features casual interviews with her comedy friends. Poehler said the show is meant to be low-pressure and fun while still meaningful, reflecting her belief in doing enough without overworking oneself.

Poehler is also well-known for supporting social causes. She has been active in advancing women’s rights and worker’s rights. Back in 2008, she co-founded Smart Girls at the Party, a digital community aimed at empowering girls, alongside Meredith Walker and Amy Miles.

The project included online videos and advice segments, and in 2012, it returned as a YouTube channel with new content. Legendary Entertainment later acquired the initiative, and Poehler said the goal was to continue “providing funny and inspirational content for all of the goofballs out there.”

Throughout her career, Poehler has supported a variety of causes. She worked with the National Domestic Workers Alliance to promote the California Domestic Worker Bill of Rights and backed the One Fair Wage campaign for tipped workers. She has also been a celebrity ambassador for the Worldwide Orphans Foundation and has appeared alongside Michelle Obama to promote youth health programs like Let’s Move!

Beyond activism, Poehler has shared her personal life with fans. Her memoir, Yes Please, debuted at number one on The New York Times Best Seller list in 2014. She explained to NPR that writing the book allowed her to share early life experiences and reflect on topics like parenthood, body image, and self-acceptance.

Poehler’s podcast, activism, and storytelling all reflect her desire to create spaces where honesty, humor, and empowerment come together. Her new show is another way for her to connect with people while highlighting what she finds important.
