Elon Musk’s AI chatbot Grok is facing global criticism after reports surfaced that the tool was generating s***** images of women and children without consent.

Governments in the U.K., Poland, the European Union, France, India, Malaysia, and Brazil have all expressed concern and called for investigations. The information comes from official statements, media reports, and nonprofit research groups.

The controversy started after the launch of Grok Imagine, an AI tool that lets users create images and videos from text prompts. It includes a “spicy mode” that can produce adult content.

Reports say that the AI began fulfilling user requests to manipulate photos of real people, creating s***** images. Some users reportedly typed prompts like, “put her in a transparent bikini,” and Grok would generate the requested image.

AI Forensics, a nonprofit group, analyzed 20,000 images created by Grok between December 25 and January 1. They found that 2% of the images showed people who appeared under 18. This included 30 images of young women or girls in bikinis or see-through clothing.

In the U.K., Technology Secretary Liz Kendall called the images “absolutely appalling, and unacceptable in decent society.” She added, “We cannot and will not allow the proliferation of these demeaning and degrading images, which are disproportionately aimed at women and girls.” Ofcom, Britain’s communications regulator, said it contacted X and xAI to check compliance with the Online Safety Act, which requires platforms to prevent and remove child s***** abuse content.

Polish lawmaker Wlodzimierz Czarzasty cited Grok as a reason for new digital safety legislation. He said in a video, “Grok lately is stripping people. It is undressing women, men and children. We feel bad about it. I would, honestly, almost want this Grok to also undress me.”

The European Union also criticized Grok. European Commission spokesman Thomas Regnier called the content “illegal, appalling, and disgusting” and said it has no place in Europe. France is investigating Grok for s****** explicit deepfakes, while India demanded X remove unlawful content and review the AI’s technical safeguards.

Malaysia’s communications regulator and Brazilian lawmaker Erika Hilton have also called for investigations. Hilton said the AI allowed users to alter photos of women and girls into s***** images and demanded that Grok’s functions be disabled until an investigation is completed.

She said, “The right to one’s image is individual; it cannot be transferred through the ‘terms of use’ of a social network, and the mass distribution of child pornography by an artificial intelligence integrated into a social network crosses all boundaries.”

xAI, Musk’s AI company, responded to media inquiries with an automated message calling reports “Legacy Media Lies.” X’s Safety account said it removes illegal content, suspends accounts, and works with authorities when necessary. Musk added, “Anyone using Grok to make illegal content will suffer the same consequences as if they upload illegal content.”
