David Harbour Exits Tony Gilroy’s “Behemoth,” Insiders Cite “Stranger Things” as Reason
David Harbour has stepped away from the upcoming drama film “Behemoth!,” directed by Tony Gilroy and produced by Searchlight Pictures.
A representative for the studio confirmed to Variety that Harbour will no longer appear in the project.
Harbour had been set to star alongside Pedro Pascal and Olivia Wilde, but insiders say he was exhausted after the final season of Netflix’s “Stranger Things.”
The long series wrap, combined with global media attention, left Harbour needing time to rest. The role has now been recast, though the replacement has not been announced. Representatives for Harbour did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
“Behemoth!” follows a musician from a family of musicians who returns to Los Angeles, described as “a love letter to the music of the movies and the people who make it.” Gilroy, known for “Michael Clayton,” wrote and is directing the film. He is also producing alongside Sanne Wohlenberg.
Harbour has been open about his mental health journey. Diagnosed with bipolar disorder at age 26, he told Variety in 2022 that discussions about mental health often focus too much on tragedy. “The colors of that dialogue need to be much broader in the sense of everything,” he said. “We pathologize this idea of normal and in truth, everybody has a lot of different experiences we should try to appreciate.”
