Jennifer Lawrence has shared why she no longer lives with her dog after becoming a mother, saying that having children completely changed how she sees dogs.

The actress spoke about the decision during a recent Q&A event in New York while promoting her film Die My Love. A video from the event was shared on Instagram, where Lawrence explained what happened to her dog, Princess Pippi Longstocking.

According to Lawrence, the dog is not gone for good. “She’s alive, she’s with my parents,” she told the audience. She explained that the dog never adjusted well to life in New York City, even though she chose an apartment close to a park to make things easier.

Lawrence said the bigger shift came after she had children. She and her husband, Cooke Maroney, have two sons, including a three-year-old and a second baby born in 2024. She admitted that motherhood made her much more fearful when it comes to dogs. “After I had a kid, dogs became so scary,” she said.

She explained that she now reacts differently when her child is near dogs. “I just see them as a threat,” Lawrence told the crowd at the 92nd Street Y. She also revealed that her feelings became stronger after a dog bit her son. “One of them bit my son and that just made me want to obliterate every dog ever,” she said.

While her feelings toward dogs have changed, Lawrence said she still loves cats. She spoke about her cat, Fred, and joked about cats being difficult. “They are a–holes,” she said, adding that their attitude is part of their charm.

Lawrence has often talked about how much motherhood has changed her life. At the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year, she said parenting affects every choice she makes. “Having children changes everything,” she said, explaining that work decisions now depend on her family first.

She also shared that becoming a mom changed her emotionally and creatively. “I didn’t know that I could feel so much,” she said, adding that her children helped her connect more deeply with her work.
