‘The White Lotus’ Season 4 Reportedly Heads to This Gorgeous Location for Filming
Mike White is hard at work on the next season of “The White Lotus,” and sources tell Variety that the show’s fourth season will be filmed at a historic French luxury hotel.
The series is set to shoot at the Château de La Messardière in Saint-Tropez, a 19th-century palace turned five-star resort on the Côte d’Azur. The property is part of the Airelles Collection, owned by Stephane Courbit, who also leads the Banijay Group, known for shows like “Survivor” and “Peaky Blinders.” HBO has not commented on the news.
The Château de La Messardière sits on 32 acres of gardens and offers high-end amenities, including a spa, private beach access, fine dining, and luxury suites. Production is scheduled to begin at the end of April and continue through October. Like past seasons, the show will not be limited to a single location. White is known for combining multiple venues to create unique backdrops, and other filming locations will include a hotel in Paris.
The plot of Season 4 remains mostly secret, though HBO has confirmed it will again follow hotel guests and staff over the course of a week. Insider sources suggest the story could involve the Cannes Film Festival, which aligns with the series filming on the French Riviera in May. Casting is underway, and French actors have been auditioning for various roles. So far, Alexander Ludwig and AJ Michalka are the first new cast members announced. Returning actors include Jennifer Coolidge, Natasha Rothwell, and Jon Gries, who have all appeared in previous seasons.
Past seasons have been set in exotic resort locations, with Hawaii, Sicily, and Thailand serving as the backdrop for the first three. Season 3 featured actors such as Walton Goggins, Michelle Monaghan, Carrie Coon, Sam Rockwell, and Parker Posey, earning eight Emmy nominations for acting. The series is executive produced by Mike White, David Bernad, and Mark Kamine.
“The White Lotus” premiered on HBO in July 2021 and was initially a limited series before being adapted into an anthology format. Each season features a new setting and mostly new cast members, though some characters have returned in multiple seasons.
The series has received widespread critical acclaim for its writing, acting, and storytelling. It has won 16 Primetime Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series, as well as two Golden Globes. Jennifer Coolidge has earned multiple awards for her performances, while Mike White has also won Emmys for writing, directing, and producing.
The show explores the interactions between wealthy hotel guests and staff over a short period, revealing tensions and darker complexities as the week unfolds. Social issues, personal conflicts, and hidden motives often come to light, blending dark comedy with sharp social commentary.
Season 4 promises to continue this tradition, giving fans another chance to experience the mix of humor, drama, and intrigue the series is known for, now against the scenic French Riviera. With its beautiful locations, strong cast, and Mike White at the helm, expectations are high for the new season.
