Gwyneth Paltrow is currently navigating the awkward intersection of her professional comeback and her family life.

The Oscar winner has returned to the big screen for the first time in years with the A24 drama Marty Supreme, but it seems her role has caused some minor trauma at home. While promoting the film, Paltrow revealed that her 19-year-old son, Moses Martin, had a visceral reaction to seeing his mother in intimate scenes with co-star Timothée Chalamet.

The film, which hit theaters on Christmas Day, features several highly publicized s** scenes between Paltrow and Chalamet. During a recent Q&A session in Santa Monica on January 9, Paltrow opened up about the experience of having her children at the Los Angeles premiere. She shared a laugh with the audience while recounting how her son struggled with the on-screen romance.

“Oh my God! My poor son,” Paltrow joked during the discussion. “Can you imagine when he came to the premiere in L.A.? He wanted to die.” The actress acknowledged that while her children, Moses and 21-year-old Apple, are supportive of her career, watching their mother in a high-octane 1950s romance was a bridge too far for the teenager.

Paltrow has been candid about the film’s physical nature, previously telling reporters that the movie contains “a lot, a lot” of s**. The pairing of the 53-year-old Goop founder and the 30-year-old Chalamet has been a talking point since filming began in late 2024. Despite the age gap, Paltrow noted that they chose to waive the use of an intimacy coordinator, feeling that they were comfortable enough to navigate the scenes as artists without extra oversight.

Marty Supreme is a stylized sports comedy-drama directed by Josh Safdie, marking his first solo directorial effort since splitting from his brother and creative partner, Benny Safdie. The film is loosely inspired by the life of table tennis legend Marty Reisman and follows Chalamet’s character, Marty Mauser, as he hustles his way through the professional ping-pong circuit. Paltrow plays Kay Stone, a glamorous and wealthy socialite who enters a passionate affair with the young prodigy.

The film boasts an eclectic supporting cast, including Shark Tank star Kevin O’Leary, rapper Tyler the Creator, and actress Fran Drescher. It has already made a significant splash this awards season, with Chalamet winning the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy. The project represents a major creative shift for both stars, blending Safdie’s signature high-anxiety energy with a nostalgic, mid-century aesthetic.

As for Paltrow, she has been balancing the Marty Supreme press tour with the continued expansion of her lifestyle brand, Goop. She recently launched her own apparel line, Gwyn, which she has been wearing throughout her recent red-carpet appearances to promote “quiet luxury.” While she has not officially announced her next acting project, she hinted in a New Year’s video that she is looking to work “smarter, not harder” in 2026.

The 1950s-set ping-pong drama continues to perform well in theaters as it moves toward the Academy Awards in March. For Paltrow, the film marks a triumphant return to form, even if it means a few more awkward movie nights with her kids. Whether Moses will ever sit through the film a second time remains to be seen.
