It was a frightening start to the week for the team behind one of the most anticipated video games in the world. On Monday morning, emergency crews rushed to the Rockstar North office in Edinburgh, Scotland, after an explosion at the building. This is the main studio developing Grand Theft Auto 6.

Fortunately, it appears to have been just an accident. The explosion reportedly happened in the building’s boiler room. Luckily, no one was injured. The incident occurred very early in the morning, around 5 AM, so the office was mostly empty at the time.

Local news outlet The Herald reported on the incident, explaining how firefighters responded.

“Operations Control mobilised three fire appliances and specialist resources to the scene, where firefighters worked to secure structural damage at a commercial building. There were no reported casualties and crews left the scene at 9.21am,” the outlet wrote.

It is still unknown when the office will reopen. This building is very important for GTA 6 development, which has already faced several delays. The game was first scheduled for late 2025, then pushed to May 2026, and is now planned for release on November 19, 2026.

Fans are naturally concerned that the explosion could cause another delay. However, since no one was hurt and the damage seems contained, there is no indication yet that the release will be affected. Rockstar North is likely focusing on making sure their developers are safe and that the building is secure before resuming normal work.

The explosion serves as a reminder of the unexpected challenges that can arise even at major game studios, but for now, the team behind GTA 6 appears to be handling the situation without serious disruption.
