Cinemark’s New ‘Fast & Furious’ Popcorn Bucket Turns Dom’s Charger Into A Snack Station
Movie theaters have spent the last few years turning popcorn buckets into genuine collector’s items, and now the ‘Fast & Furious‘ franchise is joining that race in a big way. With the original film hitting a major milestone this year, theater chains are scrambling to put their own spin on Dominic Toretto’s world before the movie even returns to the big screen.
Universal Pictures confirmed that audiences can catch the original film again for seven days, running from Friday, August 21 through Thursday, August 27, to mark its 25th anniversary. The Fast and the Furious originally opened in theaters on June 22, 2001, and it was directed by Rob Cohen and starred Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Michelle Rodriguez and Jordana Brewster, with Neal H. Moritz producing. Rodriguez, Diesel and Brewster already celebrated the anniversary together with a cast reunion at the Cannes Film Festival in May, well ahead of the official rerelease announcement.
Now Cinemark is giving fans their first real look at the concession item built around that anniversary, and it is exactly what longtime fans would hope for. The chain posted a first look at a ‘Fast & Furious’ popcorn container shaped like Dominic Toretto’s black 1970 Dodge Charger R/T, the muscle car that has defined his character since the franchise began.
The accompanying photos show the model car perched on a small round riser at the concession counter, with the hood lifting open to reveal a generous scoop of popcorn tucked inside the body of the vehicle. It turns a familiar movie prop into something a fan can actually carry around the lobby, rather than just a shelf piece behind glass.
Cinemark is not the only chain leaning on Dom’s car for this anniversary. Regal has already revealed its own Dom’s Charger Collectible Container, also built around the 1970 Dodge Charger R/T and sold with a large popcorn, alongside a separate 130oz tin decorated with license plate graphics referencing the franchise’s earlier films. The franchise has history here too, since AMC sold its own Charger shaped ‘Fast X’ popcorn vessel back in 2023, while Cinemark’s container for that release took the shape of Dom’s car mechanic toolbox instead.
The collectible push fits into a much larger anniversary rollout from the studio, since Universal has been rolling out ‘Fast and Furious’ 25th anniversary merchandise across multiple categories ahead of the theatrical return. It is a fitting victory lap for a movie that reportedly opened to forty million dollars and caught box office analysts off guard back in 2001, eventually growing into a ten film mainline series with a spinoff, an animated series and several more projects still in development.
With Regal and Cinemark both putting Dom’s Charger on the concession counter this summer, the real competition might end up being between theater chains rather than street racers. Which Charger shaped bucket would actually make it home with you, Cinemark’s open hood snack station or Regal’s matching tin and container set?
