Netflix has quietly canceled two of its shows, ending one series after just a single season and stopping another after two.

One of the shows being cut is The Abandons, a Western drama set in the 1850s. The series featured a high-profile cast, including Lena Headey and Gillian Anderson. The story focused on an Irish woman living with a group of adult orphans who had formed their own family. Together, they tried to protect their land from a powerful silver mine owner who wanted to take it. Netflix has decided not to continue the show beyond its first season.

The production of The Abandons had problems from the start. The show’s creator, Kurt Sutter, stepped down as showrunner before filming was completed due to creative disagreements. The series also struggled to win over critics.

Netflix also canceled The Vince Staples Show, a comedy series led by rapper Vince Staples. The show followed a fictional version of Staples as he navigated life in Long Beach. It premiered in 2024 and managed to earn a second season, but Netflix has now decided not to move forward with a third.

Reviews for the comedy were mixed. Aramide Tinubu noted that the series had “some truly laugh-out-loud moments.” At the same time, she pointed out that the show suffered from “uneven cadence and aimlessness throughout,” which made it “a frustrating watch overall.” She also added that “Staples has a lot of great ideas, but they feel mostly unfinished.”

While these cancellations may disappoint fans, Netflix continues to invest in other projects. According to recent announcements from the company, several shows have been renewed, including Bridgerton, Nobody Wants This, The Hunting Wives, and Survival of the Thickest.

The news was first reported by Deadline.
