This version of Lord of the Flies is written by Jack Thorne and is based on the famous novel by William Golding. The story follows a group of schoolboys who survive a shipwreck and end up alone on a remote island. With no adults to guide them, they try to create their own rules and systems, but order does not last long.
The trailer shows how the boys start out trying to stay calm and work together. One voice in the clip says, “We need to think about food and shelter. We need to help each other and be good camp mates.” Early scenes focus on teamwork and hope, but the mood quickly changes as fear and power struggles take over.
Ralph, played by Winston Sawyers, becomes the group’s early leader, with Piggy, played by David McKenna, acting as the voice of logic. Jack, played by Lox Pratt, soon challenges that leadership as he becomes more focused on hunting and control. As tensions rise, the boys turn on one another and slowly lose their sense of right and wrong.
The cast includes more than 30 young actors. Among them are Ike Talbut as Simon, Thomas Connor as Roger, and twins Noah and Cassius Flemming as Sam and Eric. The series is directed by Marc Munden and produced by Callum Devrell-Cameron. Music for the show comes from Cristobal Tapia de Veer, with the main theme created by Hans Zimmer and Kara Talve. The project was commissioned by BBC drama boss Lindsay Salt.
