Sydney Sweeney will not appear in the final version of The Devil Wears Prada 2 after her planned cameo was removed during post-production.

The report says Sweeney did film a short role for the sequel. The scene was meant to appear early in the movie and included a moment set inside the fashion world that the story is built around. However, the sequence was later taken out before release.

A source speaking to Entertainment Weekly said the decision was based on creative direction. The scene simply did not fit well with the flow of the final cut, so it was removed during editing. The source added that the production team appreciated Sweeney’s involvement, even though the material was cut.

In the version that was filmed, Sweeney appeared in a short scene alongside Emily Blunt. She played herself in the moment, which reportedly lasted only a few minutes. The scene showed a fashion setting where a celebrity styling moment took place, adding more detail to the world of the film.

The sequel continues the story from the original The Devil Wears Prada. The new plot follows Andy Sachs, played by Anne Hathaway, as she reconnects with former colleagues at Runway magazine. The group faces pressure as the fashion publication deals with financial and industry challenges.

Key characters return, including Miranda Priestly, played by Meryl Streep, and Nigel Kipling, played by Stanley Tucci. Emily Charlton, played by Emily Blunt, now works in a powerful position in the fashion industry and plays a major role in the story.

Reports also note that the team behind the film included several returning creators from the original movie, which was released in 2006 and became a major box office success. The sequel has brought back much of the original production team while also adding new cast members to expand the story.

Alongside Sweeney’s removed cameo, the film still includes other surprise appearances. One confirmed appearance is from Lady Gaga, who also contributes a song to the movie’s soundtrack. Her involvement has added extra attention to the project ahead of release.

Filming for the sequel took place across multiple locations and wrapped before its planned theatrical rollout. The movie is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on May 1.

The report also mentions that Sweeney has remained active in other projects, including returning to her breakout series work. Her involvement in the sequel still generated interest after she was spotted near the set during production in 2025, which led to early speculation about her role.

The final cut simply changed during editing, which led to the removal of her appearance. No official public statement was given by either the studio or the actress when contacted by the outlet.

This kind of decision is normal in big films, even when well-known actors are involved. Scenes are often cut when they do not fit the final structure, even if they are already filmed. It does not always reflect on the actor or performance, but on how the story is shaped in the end. What do you think about removing cameos like this after filming?
