Rebecca Ferguson Reveals Emotional On-Set Incident That Made Her Cry — 5 Co-Stars Are Officially Cleared of Misconduct
Rebecca Ferguson has once again spoken about a troubling experience on set with a past co-star. The actress revealed years ago that someone yelled at her while filming, leaving her feeling vulnerable and upset. She first opened up about the incident on the Reign with Josh Smith podcast in 2024.
“I remember there was a moment and this human being was being so insecure and angry because this person couldn’t get the scenes out. And I think I was so vulnerable and uncomfortable that I got screamed at. But because this person was number one on a call sheet, there was no safety net for me. So no one had my back. I would cry walking off set,” Ferguson said.
She added that the co-star said things like, “You call yourself an actor?” and “This is what I have to work with?” She remembered standing there feeling completely broken.
In a new interview with Harper’s Bazaar UK published on February 5, Ferguson reflected on the incident again. “It was so scary. I didn’t know then how to go, ‘Hey, can I talk to you privately?’ Now, I would want to believe that I could have taken this person aside,” she said. She also discussed how Hollywood has changed, noting, “A lot of people say that we’ve become too woke, but I think, no, it’s great. The pendulum needs to swing to the other side so that we can find a balance in between.”
While fans have speculated about which star was involved, Ferguson has confirmed that several well-known actors are not connected to the incident. Hugh Jackman, who worked with her on The Greatest Showman and later Reminiscence, was cleared. Ferguson has praised Jackman in interviews and confirmed he is not the person who yelled at her.
Tom Cruise is also not involved. Ferguson emphasized that the incident happened during a film in the last 10 to 12 years, making Cruise, who she worked with years earlier, unrelated to the story.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, who starred with Ferguson in Hercules in 2014, also appears to be safe from the allegations. Johnson tweeted his support of Ferguson, saying, “Hate seeing this but love seeing her stand up to b******. Rebecca was my guardian angel sent from heaven on our set. I love that woman. I’d like to find out who did this.” Ferguson reportedly followed him on Instagram afterward, signaling no issues between them.
Emily Blunt, her co-star in The Girl on the Train (2016), is likewise cleared. Blunt’s representative confirmed to the Daily Mail that the two actresses remain friends, stating, “Rebecca and Emily are friends and there’s nothing but love between them.”
Finally, Ryan Reynolds, who worked with Ferguson on the 2017 sci-fi horror film Life, was also ruled out. Ferguson confirmed in a 2025 interview with The Times that Reynolds was not the actor in question.
Ferguson’s candid reflections highlight the challenges actors can face on set, especially when dealing with co-stars in positions of power. Her willingness to share her experience shines a light on the importance of respect and safety in Hollywood workplaces.
It’s commendable that Rebecca Ferguson spoke up about her experience while also clarifying which co-stars were not involved. It shows that it’s possible to address workplace issues without falsely accusing others. What do you think about Ferguson’s story and the support from the cleared co-stars?
