Drake’s $1M Super Bowl Gamble Backfires — Fans Say the Infamous ‘Drake Curse’ Strikes Again
Drake’s Super Bowl bet did not end the way he hoped. The rapper placed a huge wager on the New England Patriots before the 2026 Super Bowl, but the Seattle Seahawks won the game 29-13. The result quickly sparked talk online that the so-called Drake Curse had returned once again.
Before the game, Drake shared on Instagram that he had put down $1 million on the Patriots. He even teased the bet in his caption, writing, “Bet against me if you dare.” If the Patriots had won, the payout would have been close to $2.95 million. Instead, the loss became one of his most talked-about betting moments.
Fans reacted right away. Some joked that the Patriots never had a chance once Drake showed his support. Others said they now always bet against the team he picks. One person wrote, “Bro already lost the fight before the battle starts,” while another added, “Drake, you my guy, but holy you’re cursed when it comes to betting on sports.”
Actor Mark Wahlberg, who is a known Patriots fan, supported Drake’s decision in the comments and wrote, “SMART MAN.” Still, most of the online chatter focused on the curse theory that has followed the rapper for years.
The idea of the Drake Curse has been around for a long time. Fans believe that teams or athletes he publicly supports often lose soon after.
People often bring up past bets as proof. Drake lost $60,000 in 2016 over the NBA Finals. In 2025, he bet more than $1 million on the Kansas City Chiefs, who lost the Super Bowl. He also backed the Toronto Maple Leafs with another million-dollar bet before they lost to the Florida Panthers.
Drake has spoken about the theory before. In an interview, he laughed about it and said, “The Drake Curse is funny to me, honestly.” He pointed to the Toronto Raptors winning the NBA championship in 2019 as proof that the curse is not real. “If there was a Drake Curse, Kawhi would’ve never hit that shot, we would’ve never beat the Warriors. There is no Drake curse, but it’s funny, though,” he said.
Even so, he admitted that sports betting is not his strength. He said, “I’m a flawed sports bettor.” He added that fans will probably keep talking about the curse because “my slips do not cash out.”
For now, the Seahawks’ win has only made the legend stronger online. Every time Drake places a big bet, fans seem ready to watch what happens next.
