Angelina Jolie Confesses Which Film Made Her Throw Up
Angelina Jolie was just a seventeen-year-old aspiring actress looking for her first major break in Hollywood in 1993. When she was offered a leading role in a sequel to a Jean-Claude Van Damme hit, she eagerly accepted the opportunity.
This decision led to her professional debut in the now-obscure sci-fi film Cyborg 2, an experience she has largely tried to forget. In the film, Jolie played a character named Casella Reese, though she was almost exclusively referred to by the nickname “Cash.” The role was a quintessential product of nineties sci-fi.
featuring a cyborg assassin designed to perfectly mimic human emotions. While this premise allowed the production to avoid heavy prosthetic work, it didn’t do much to elevate the quality of the project. The story followed Cash as she became self-aware and developed a moral compass, leading her to rebel against a suicidal mission.
Jolie recently admitted that the final result was far from the prestigious debut she had envisioned for herself. Recalling the first time she sat down to watch the movie, she confessed to Buzzfeed that she actually threw up from the sheer nausea of seeing the finished product.
She described the physical reaction as genuine, noting that her brother had to hold her and offer comfort after the screening ended. Despite her disgust with the film, which included a bizarre scene where her decapitated head continues to speak, she did find one silver lining.
She noted that the kickboxing was fun and appreciated that it was her first real introduction to the physical training that would later define her career. There is a certain irony in her negative memories of the film, as it inadvertently launched her into a genre she would eventually dominate.
While she felt sick watching her first performance, the skills she learned on set paved the way for her future as a global action icon. From her time as Lara Croft to her high-octane roles in Mr. & Mrs. Smith and Wanted, that initial experience with kickboxing helped her secure a spot as one of the few women to truly stand out in the action genre.
As of February, Jolie is currently enjoying a sophisticated new phase of her career, often referred to as her “French era.” She just attended the Paris premiere of her latest film, Coutures, on February 9, where she stunned on the red carpet in a custom Givenchy look.
The drama, directed by Alice Winocour, explores the high-stakes world of Paris Fashion Week and is scheduled for a wide theatrical release on February 18. Her recent portrayal of opera legend Maria Callas in the biopic Maria has also kept her in the awards conversation throughout the early part of this year.
Looking ahead, she has several high-profile projects in various stages of development, including the spy thriller Maude v Maude with Halle Berry and the long-awaited Disney Maleficent 3. She is also reportedly preparing for a significant life change, with plans to move her primary residence to Europe later this summer once her youngest children turn eighteen.
