Britney Spears has reportedly made a massive move in her professional life by selling the rights to her entire music catalogue. As of February, the pop icon has finalized a deal with independent publisher Primary Wave, joining the ranks of other superstars like Bruce Springsteen and Justin Bieber who have cashed in on their life’s work.

The deal is estimated to be worth approximately $200 million, though neither Spears nor the publisher has officially commented on the specifics. This decision comes at a time when Britney, now 44, has been quite vocal about her desire to distance herself from the recording studio.

Early in 2024, she famously told fans she would never return to the music industry following a duet with Elton John that served as her final swan song. The sale covers nearly 40 songs she co-wrote and covers nine studio albums’ worth of hits, including “Toxic” and “Gimme More.”

Primary Wave is a heavy hitter in the world of music rights, already managing the estates of legends like Whitney Houston and Prince. By acquiring Britney’s catalogue, they are betting on the long-term value of her legacy, especially as her influence continues to grow among a new generation.

This financial shift marks another chapter in her independence after her 13-year conservatorship was finally dissolved in late 2021. The sale follows a busy couple of years for the singer, who spent much of 2023 and 2024 reclaiming her narrative through her bestselling memoir, The Woman in Me.

That book provided a heartbreaking and raw look at her struggles under her father’s control and her difficult path to freedom. While her ex-husband, Kevin Federline, released his own memoir at the end of 2025, Britney has largely stayed focused on her own projects and her life in California.

Looking toward the future, fans have a major reason to be excited as a feature film adaptation of The Woman in Me is currently in development at Universal Pictures. The project is being directed by Jon M. Chu, the man behind the recent Wicked movies, who has promised to work closely with Britney to ensure her story is told with integrity.

While no lead actress has been cast yet, names like Sabrina Carpenter and Millie Bobby Brown have been swirling through the rumor mill. As of early this year, the biopic is still in its early stages.

There has also been talk of Britney being involved in a “fictional musical” project where she might play an extremely intelligent character, a role that would be a fun departure from her pop star persona. Whether she ever returns to the stage or not, her business moves suggest she is building a massive financial foundation for the next several decades of her life.

Beyond the biopic, Britney has been enjoying her newfound privacy and frequently shares updates about her travels and her dance routines on social media. She recently teased a potential trip to the UK and Australia to visit family, though she remains firm about not performing in the United States again for extremely sensitive reasons.
