The latest “Star Wars” adventure is almost here. The Mandalorian and Grogu is set to hit theaters on May 23, 2026, marking the first big-screen entry in the franchise since 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker. Ahead of its release, a new trailer has dropped, giving fans a closer look at what to expect from this expanded galactic story.

The trailer shows that the movie builds on the Disney+ series The Mandalorian, with bigger battles, more creatures, and even larger sets.

Pedro Pascal returns as Din Djarin, the Mandalorian, and Grogu is back as the adorable, mysterious child of Yoda’s species. Joining the cast are Sigourney Weaver as a former Rebel pilot, Jeremy Allen White providing the voice of a Hutt family member, and Jonny Coyne as a leader of remaining Imperial forces.

The original Disney+ series first premiered just before The Rise of Skywalker in 2019. It followed Din Djarin, a bounty hunter who becomes the unlikely protector of Grogu, navigating a galaxy still recovering after the fall of the Empire.

The series explored a morally grey universe where the New Republic struggles to maintain order while remnants of the Empire continue to cause trouble. The show ran for three seasons—2019, 2020, and 2023—and led to spin-offs like The Book of Boba Fett (2021), Ahsoka (2023), and Skeleton Crew (2024).

The film is directed by Jon Favreau, the creator of The Mandalorian, who also co-wrote the script with Dave Filoni, Lucasfilm’s president and chief creative officer. Fans can expect the same attention to detail and storytelling that made the series so popular, but now on a much larger cinematic scale.

In addition to the movie, Disney is updating the Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run attraction at both Disneyland and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The new version of the ride will open alongside the film, giving fans another way to step into the story.

From the trailer, it’s clear that The Mandalorian and Grogu aims to deliver the mix of adventure, suspense, and humor that fans have loved, while also expanding the universe for the big screen. With a strong cast and experienced creative team, the movie is shaping up to be a must-see for both longtime fans and newcomers to the franchise.

This movie could be a game-changer for how streaming shows transition to theatrical releases. It looks like Disney and Lucasfilm are raising the stakes in a way that honors the original series while giving audiences an epic cinematic experience.
