Jacob Elordi has officially stormed into the lead as the odds-on favourite to replace Daniel Craig as the next James Bond. The 28-year-old Australian actor is currently riding a massive wave of success following the global release of Emerald Fennell’s adaptation of Wuthering Heights, in which he stars as the brooding Heathcliff.

This surge in popularity has had an immediate and dramatic impact on the betting markets, shifting the landscape of the search for the next 007. While Elordi’s chances were pegged at a distant 14/1 just last week, he has now toppled the previous frontrunner, Callum Turner.

Following the strong box office performance of his latest film over the recent Presidents Day weekend, Elordi’s odds have plummeted to 5/4. Turner, the English actor previously considered the safe bet, has seen his own odds drift from 7/10 to 6/4, leaving him in second place as the race intensifies.

Bettors have shown overwhelming support for Elordi over the last 24 hours, with more than half of all new wagers backing the Saltburn star for the role. Lee Phelps, a spokesperson for William Hill, noted that Elordi was considered an outsider only a month ago but has seen his price consistently slashed since the public first saw him as Heathcliff.

He noted that the Australian is now the new 5/4 frontrunner to replace Daniel Craig, effectively dethroning Turner in a very short span of time. The fallout from the Wuthering Heights release has even extended to Elordi’s co-star, Margot Robbie, who has seen her own odds jump into contention as a potential Bond girl.

Chris Rogers of Oddschecker observed that while Turner led the market for several weeks, punters have strongly backed Elordi over the last 12 hours, with 56 percent of bets favouring the actor. Other prominent names still in the running include Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Theo James, though they currently trail behind the two leaders.

Wuthering Heights has certainly provided the necessary momentum, raking in a staggering $82 million globally during its debut. The film, which features Elordi and Robbie as the iconic star-crossed lovers, has become the year’s biggest opening so far in North America.

Despite some early controversy regarding casting choices, the box office numbers suggest that audiences are more than willing to accept Elordi as a leading man of classic literature, and perhaps, as a legendary spy. Beyond the Bond speculation, Elordi has been exceptionally busy with several high-profile projects.

He recently received critical acclaim and an Academy Award nomination for his performance as the Creature in Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, which debuted on Netflix in late 2025.

Looking ahead, fans can expect to see him in Ridley Scott’s science fiction drama The Dog Stars, currently slated for an August release. He is also set to star alongside Lily-Rose Depp in the Appalachian tale Outer Dark, which begins filming later this year.

On the television front, Elordi is returning to Euphoria, with the highly anticipated third season confirmed to premiere on HBO on April 12. This final season will feature a significant time jump and serves as a farewell to the cast, including the late Eric Dane.

Between his dramatic turns in gothic horror and his blockbuster success in romantic dramas, Elordi has successfully transitioned from a teen heartthrob to a serious Oscar contender, making the prospect of him stepping into Bond’s tuxedo seem more plausible than ever.
